RESPECT FOR OUR LOST ICONS {by Nadine Jessel}
We just lost three icons and many are yet to come;
From their warm hearts, their virtues have spoken from.
Our lives are too rushed and we don’t stop to reflect;
The gifts of talented icons which we should honour and respect.
Your esteem for Ed McMahon and Farrah Facwett is not up for debate;
But the mixed views of Michael Jackson, I sadly do relate.
Michael had a troubled life and that’s a tragic shame;
For his eccentric actions, show him pity more than blame.
When John F. Kennedy was shot, oh how the world wept;
But he too had dark secrets, inside where they all slept.
The loss of Princess Diana hit the world with a thrust;
She captured our hearts, our support and our undying trust.
Elvis was a troubled soul, trapped within his self abuse;
To avoid his death in the end, there was absolutely no use.
Elvis and many others met their fate as did Michael;
For toxic abuse repeats itself in a perpetual destructive cycle.
Here I mention only a few, but there were many more;
Some outshine in spirit, but some in misery evened the score.
Pay them the homage that they rightly deserve;
For in death, their dark side we won’t observe.
Whether president, war hero or the best talent in sight;
They are all now sleeping angels in their own right.
Many war heroes fought for our freedom and died;
They too had imperfections which cannot be denied.
Some of our idols entertained us spreading joy and fun;
Others fought for our freedom or said how our countries are run.
The loss of our icons we have come to dread;
Their inspirations joined to our hearts by an invisible thread.
They gave light to our souls with their talents so bright;
To defame them in death, just isn’t right.
No matter the contribution to society they dealt;
Their talents and inspirations were profoundly felt.
Denouncing the spirits of the dead is an expression of our fear;
For our deepest wounds are echoed when we look into the mirror.
So, one last tribute to the lost icons whose talents we behold;
For they all had some darkness and many secrets untold.
It takes integrity to be heartfelt and kind;
Please honour the legacies that these icons have left behind.

You know I have seen a Grinch, grin!
Emphatically,
But I do believe I saw a devil .....SMILE.
As a kid of about 12 - 13 y o, I grew up on Lisbon Avenue,
there used to be a George Webb right smack on the corner of 35TH &Lisbon,
Me, my brother, and two sisters used to go to the Webb all the time for those cheap-cheap-cheap burgers.
It FELT like a dollar could by a Hundred of them ground beef babies!
TALK ABOUT HEAVEN.
Well, anyways, I attended seventh and eighth grade at Samuel Morse Junior High School.
84TH &Congress...back in '77,... I'm guessin'. It was a predominately white neighborhood. I remember taking that 23RD &Fondulac bus ride,
It was like watching a Howard Bearden meld into a Norman Rockwell.....
Observing Milwaukee, watching her TRANSFORM in what took like 23 minutes.
Shifting back into Happy but Content Howard Bearden again at the end of my classes day.
Back to Simplicity.
The simple Life. With the intense gratefulness & joy. Even for the little things, that matter the most
The crumbs...and even those scraggily lookin' yellow Dandelions, Behind the Scenes.
I was an embarrassingly shy and quiet kid. I recall having this Tough THORNY $%@! STUBBORN RED ROSE-
for an Algebra Teacher. She wasn't bad looking ither. Just Strict. The Logical Zenless Master.
This Lady would yell, "SHHHHHUTT- YOUR- --MOUTH-----NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!"
---and that's even when she heard a number drop.
I remember there being maybe three blacks in my math class of about thirty. And I was one of them. The majority of the class were white teens. We went to school when there was a mindset of busing minorities out of their slum neighborhoods to "better" schools. There was tension, but I rarely FOCUSED on it. I was just fascinated by learning something new. Numbers and Letters. Home Ec, Shop Class, History...all was FUN to me. I was in Heaven.
All my Teachers liked me. And I loved them.
Buuuut....it was just...This NUMBERS LADY... was a BEAST.
Like 666. She never said much to me. But she was always watching, behind the scenes.
Observing...those other kids in the class. Who made her crazy and mad.
This is how it went down, when the bell rang for Math's Witching Hour. When every kid came into class, we sat up straight, mouths closed, and NOBODY even DARED say a word .... or God forbid....laugh.
It was like OFF TO THE FIERY PITS OF HELL you GO.
(Principal's Office-Phone Call to Mom-and INSTANT DEATH!!)
So I kept my mouth closed, did my work, found the puzzle of numbers effortless, and passed with straight A's in MATH.
Man, --I even did my homework in 1st Hour! --- Study Hall.
With time to spare, and a quick nap.
Then I would return back on the bell sound straight to MATH HEAVEN.
Now here's the anomaly. We had this final algebra exam at the end of the year.
And I ace the mother-.
It felt like I was having fun, like the Teacher was challenging me to a playful duel.
Simple formulas. Effortlessly put together, like a simple puzzle.
I probably was the first to turn my final exam paper in,
i'm a little clouded in the memory,
but I do remember being called up to the front desk, a few minutes later,
Upon Teach's inspection.
A Big No-No.
On every Logical & Practical level.
Ms M??---(please forgive me for forgetting the exact name.)
My Algebra Teacher looks me straight in the eye...and I see this Grinch,----- SMILE
Like this>>
I see TEETH. But No-- FANGS. Pretty TEETH. A Softness in a once-hardened FACE,
IT's tender, affectionate, and a sweet new look, I must admit,
.... it becomes her.
A More Flexible Miss M. emerges from a thorn. to a rose.
I kid you not, Miss "M" reaches out her hand to me,
{no fork or claw with piercing nails}
...and proceeds to tell me that I have ACED MY EXAM.
And i'm lookin' like....
{{<<SHOCKED!!>>}}
not because I aced the exam...that was the fun & easy part,
It's because I see the "Devil, suddenly Dressed in Blue."
....we shake hands and she THANKS me kindly, ....moi?????
...I think she said, "--- She wanted to marry me.lol"
I tease. I jest about that marrying part.
I turn around, the other kids are stunned, lookin' up at me and I walk on air back to my desk,
But I can still FEEL Miss M smiling......not grinning,
yet....glowing... smiling ....INSIDE.
I Kinda' Really, Liked Miss. "M --"
Miss Mathematical
I really did.
[You know something....I would have made a rather COMPASSIONATE, practical College Math Professor.]
Peace.

Well?????
Which one are YOU.....???
----either you got the LOOK, like Katherine Heigl or Jezelle Bundchen----or you're settling for smart like OPRAH
inherent BEAUTY of SPIRIT.
EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL ABOUT THEM
WHETHER IT'S INNER BEAUTY OR FLAWLESS PHYSICALITY
IF YOU LOOK PERFECT.....THEN YOU GOT UGLY HAIRY TOES.....OR BAD BREATH....OR YOU FART INCESSANTLY IN CHURCH
WE ALL HAVE FLAWS.....AT LEAST ONE
Me personally???......MY BIG NOSE......
.....i know i'm not good-looking so that's why i read A LOT OF BOOKS as a kid....my innermost circle of friends
mantra to me all the time that i am highly intelligent and i have BIG MUSCLES, BIG GUNS, and A NICE SIX PACK, .....plus they say i am SEDUCTIVELY CHARMING
Either you look like Denzel Washington, George Clooney, or Brad Pitt or you are EVERYONE ELSE trying to compensate
i tend to get by on humor and razor sharp wit
my intellect is my inherent gift.......it just so happens that my GUNS are the icing on the cake.
YOU CAN'T BE BOTH-----COME ON!!!!!
----to have BOTH goes against all sub-atomic, genetic, and PHYSICAL LAWS of the UNIVERSE
Am i "wrong" here???---because i KNOW i am not physically stunning. So don't kid yourselves. Do you think i like living with this nose. I FEEL Lebron James pain.
I tease, JK.....i love my nose....but it took me over forty years to come to this conclusion
Yet i would certainly settle for intelligence over beauty every time. Brains before Beauty.
Humor before Beauty. Charm before Beauty. Someone who makes me laugh before...beauty.
OK....i'm PUSHING IT A LITTLE..............................
If you are lucky enough to be perceived as BOTH HOT & HIGHLY INTELLIGENT.....
THEN I SUPPOSE HELL HAS FINALLY FROZEN OVER, PIGS DO FLY,
AND A BLACK MAN HAS BECOME PRESIDENT!!
----i need a drink after writing this one down----vodka & cranberry juice please----stirred, NOT SHAKEN

I have never blogged before so bear with me. This is just a test as I dont know where Im going. I just want to say hi to Rachael. I enjoy watching you on the news, and read your recent blog about dieting, and I am in the same boat. only I watch what I eat and excercise all week, then I blow it on the week end. So I always end of weighing the same. Up 2 lbs, and down 2lbs.
I think eating grapes is better for you than wine, and that way you dont have to worry about the second glass. lol

Friends of mine and I went to see My Bloody Valentine 3d and Friday the 13th. In both cases there were young children in the theatres. I do not mean teenagers - I mean kids that looked like they were 8 or 9 and in Friday the 13th there was a child barely walking. There is no way the parents did not know what kind of movies these were. I asked theatre management about it and was told since there was an adult with the kids there was "nothing" that could be done.
Both movies contained nudity, sex scenes and graphic violence. Just what a young child should be watching. During Friday the 13th we could hear what sounded like a really young child reacting to the scenes. I can understand a parent wanting to go out but there are MANY other more appropriate movies for them to see if they have to bring a child with them. What was almost worse is that at the theatre there is a place to leave children. A "kid friendly" area. Why would you bring your child in to see a slasher film? To me it seems selfish and an example of a bad parent. Your needs are more important than that of a child. I am not in favor of "coddling" but do you really have to bring a young child to see a slasher film?

For months and months we have been hearing that TV stations are going to be switching over to digitals signals. Way back in Dec. of 2007 my whole family applied for the boxes to get the digitals signals. My wife and I my two sons, and daughter all applied....you know what we got Squat.
All four families received nothing in the mail. We all reapplied over the internet and phone. The answers we all received was...they were mail out, your timed out, you applied and you can't re-apply.
We all live in the same town and you think just one or two of us could have received a couple coupons for these boxes. So here we all sit with no one to turn to, and of course talking to the government is like talking to a oak tree, you get the same results.....nothing. This whole thing was a joke for us.

I have a need to tell you about this great woman! Her name is Jennifer Wellhofere, she had written a book called "The Magic Ear" it is based on her experience with her then new son, Jack, who had continues ear infections before he was 7 months old, and Jen was struggling with post partum depression and exhaustion, she would sit up night after night reciting a story she made up to her crying baby.
Jen told herself she would someday jot the story down. one day on a whim she sent it out and before she new it, it was being published!
I just felt she needed to be recognized, Jen had a great in pact on my life, as I was going through a great deal of things myself , with a new born and 2 older kids.
Jen is a family therapist, it just proves to us that even people that are taught to teach others how to cope with stress and depression go through it themselves.
10% of the books sales will go to the Magic ear fund, established to support and reassure childeren with ear related conditions .
to order or to contact her. Jens email is djwellhoefer.aol.com
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog and please check out her book it is a very cute story!

Digital Television (DTV) opens up a whole new world both to viewers and to broadcasters. Not only does each broadcaster have the ability to transmit network programming in crystal clear high definition (HD), but it also has the ability to transmit other data such as programming information which can be used by a digital receiver's built in program guide.
Another feature of DTV is its ability to carry subchannels. HD signals use a portion of each broadcaster's allowed 6Mhz frequency spectrum. This allows room for these additional subchannels. If a broadcaster chooses to transmit standard definition (SD) subchannels along with its normal HD network feed, two additional subchannels can be broadcast alongside the main channel with few problems. We have seen this with both the local PBS affiliate and the ABC affiliate in the Green Bay market as well as the CBS affiliate in the Wausau market.
I would love to see each of the local broadcasters utilize this technology to provide even more programming via these subchannels. For instance, movie and TV giant MGM just announced plans to produce programming for just this use. They plan to offer feeds to local over-the air (OTA) broadcasters in much the same way that digital channel 2.3 does. MGM has over 10,000 house of vintage television programming as well as over 4,000 feature movies to offer, so the programming could be outstanding!
Fox has regional sports networks. Perhaps the local Fox affiliates could pick up this regional network for our area (FSN-North) and broadcast it as a subchannel. Each of the major networks has a 24 hour news channel such as Fox News. Perhaps stations such as this could be broadcast on a subchannel.
Of course, these subchannels would need to be in SD due to bandwidth constraints, but I would really like to see them broadcast in 480p widescreen. This would allow for lower bandwidth than an HD signal would consume, but would still offer full widescreen display at DVD resolution. If WLUK could add FSN-North at 480P as a single subchannel, I would be in heaven! I can just imagine watching the Milwaukee Brewers games in DVD quality widescreen. The same would work for the other networks. I could see the NBC affiliate broadcasting MSNBC in 480p widescreen and CBS broadcasting a subchannel based on the huge CBS TV/ Paramount movie libraries.
I can only hope that our local affiliates who have not yet moved to providing subchannels do so very soon. Doing so in in the 480p widescreen EDTV format would be an added plus!
